The One Expected Party (The Hobbit Oscar Party), took place at the American Legion in Hollywood on Oscar night and was co-produced by TheOneRing.net and Premiere Events. This was the ultimate Hobbit fan party for the 2013 Academy Awards. Hundreds of Hobbit fans gathered to watch the live stream of the Academy Awards, while rooting for the Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. Premiere Events served the guests two themed meals in honor of J.R. Tolkien’s Hobbits. At the One Expected Party, the first meal was the Afternoon Tea; a large buffet of gourmet sandwiches, cheese and desserts all in the theme of the Hobbit’s homeland, the Shire. The second meal was a Hobbit Feast; a full dinner including salads, salmon with rosemary brown sugar pommery glaze with roasted carrots & turnips, whole roast pork tenderloin with apple chutney and roasted potatoes & pearl onions, and wild mushroom lasagna with fontina and béchamel and a wide variety of desserts! There was an open bar the entirety of the evening serving, wine, beer and spirits. The catering at this event was an important element to the evening because, what is a party without food? Guests have read and re-read The Hobbit and they know that Hobbits love farm fresh food including cheese, root vegetables and desserts like seed cake. Our menu was crafted from the foods in the book and the guests knew that making their night come full circle with Hobbit joy!
The intent of The One Expected Party was to bring together Hobbit fans from around the world to celebrate Oscar night. The American Legion Hollywood, Post 43 was decorated head to toe in full Hobbit decor. There was a pub style blow up building on the patio, a life size Gollum in the entrance, a large statue of Orc next to the bar and a enormous goblin in the auditorium. Downstairs there was a photo booth where guests posed in front of backgrounds straight out of the movie, such as the Shire. The guests enjoed a live BeeCake concert featuring Billy Boyd and Dominic Monaghan even made a surprise appearance, singing on stage. The Hobbit fans ate great food and enjoyed live entertainment and definitely had a memorable Oscar party.
